HOLY SPIRIT, TEACH ME
2 Timothy 3:14-15 (NKJV)
But you must continue in the things which you have learned and been assured of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
Reading God’s Word is like treasure hunting. God’s Word is a precious treasure. When we read His Word, we are hunting for the Truth. Anything other than the Truth, such as twisted truth, half-truth, and guileful words must be flung away immediately. Lest our body, soul, and spirit be polluted by them.
Quote
“All Scripture ought to be read in the spirit in which it was written. We must rather seek for what is profitable in Scripture, than for what ministereth to subtlety in discourse. Therefore, we ought to read books which are devotional and simple, as well as those which are deep and difficult. And let not the weight of the writer be a stumbling-block to thee, whether he be of little or much learning, but let the love of the pure Truth draw thee to read. Ask not, who hath said this or that, but look to what HE says.” — à Kempis Thomas
God can speak to us in different ways without respect for people. But there is a hindrance if we do not know how to receive His Word. If we have prayed, “Holy Spirit, teach me and give me understanding of Your Word.” Be prepared to hear reproof and correction rather than a love message.
When we read the Scriptures, do not skip or leave off quickly if the passage sounded advocating and admonishing, but seek to understand and listen intently to the whisper of the Spirit. His guiding light will illuminate the Word that gives understanding to our spirit.
1 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Prayer:
Abba Father, thank you for Your Holy Word. Open my heart and spirit to learn, receive, and accept Your teaching regardless of who said or preached it, but what You said matters. Teach me to hide Your Word in my heart because Your Word says, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but Your Word will by no means pass away. (Luke 21:33).
